MindTrap Friday

Sorry about the lack of postings this week, I'm committed to charity work and I had to travel to the Sudan and help orphans who lost multiple limbs in landmine accidents. What did you do this week? That's what I thought, not one of you people helped limbless Sudanian orphans. That's okay, I'm sure you all spent your free time on worthwhile projects. I wonder what Fenris and Lisa did? Oh right, a big fat nothing is what they did.

Anyway, last Friday's MindTrap game was 17.5% better than the previous week, and a full 30% better that the MindTrap Friday of 6 weeks ago. I really do have to say, it has become my favourite segment on Mitchieville. I also have to say that Mitchievillian's are the smartest people that surf the interwebs. I also have to say that mixing rye with lemonade will give you a headache so bad that you will think that some maniac is drilling into your skull with a jackhammer.

Here are the answers to last week's questions:
1) The truck would have burned off more than 30 grams of fuel in the first two kilometres of crossing the bridge. Therefore the sparrow's weight would have had no effect.

2) No, since the total mass (combined air and birds) in the back of the truck does not change. If this doesn't make sense, think of this analogy. If you have a beaker of oil with water on top, does its total mass change if you stir the oil and water together?

3) The every once in a while is once a year at Christmas time when she cuts down a Christmas tree.

Bonus Question: A match
Richard Evans, Rob Huck, Mecheng (which stands for mechanical engineer, not mechanized Englishman, I learned that the hard and embarrassing way), Butch and the Godless Commie all scored correctly. Wow.

2) I have to give everyone a giant red checkmark on this question. In some ways I feel like the question cheated you, it didn't provide adequate information and what it did provide could be easily misinterpreted. Or something like that. Either way, there were some great answers for this question, and I think if the question was worded better you all would have reached the same conclusion.

3) Everyone scored right again. Lindsay gets a bonus point because she said "Holiday tree". You would have though that the Godless Commie would have clued into that, which makes me believe he is less of a Godless Commie than he's letting on. Good job, Lindsay, we need more women like you down here at Princeton.

4) Once again, every single soul scored correctly. That means that we have a five way tie. That's kind of funny considering we've never even had a two person tie before, maybe the questions were too easy.

I'm proud of all of you folks, give yourself a big hand(job).

Here are this week's questions:
1) Commander Riker was looking to buy a vacation house on the Planet of the Edo, an island in space where the natives, in addition to being Scantily Clad California Beach Blondes, always tell the truth and the visitors always lie. Riker was looking at one house he particularly liked, but wasn't sure if he could believe the things the owners were telling him about it, so he decided to determine if they were natives or visitors. Riker asked the man of the house if his wife was a visitor and he received a yes or no answer. Riker then asked the lady of the house if her husband was a visitor and she also gave him a yes or no answer. Were the two answers necessarily the same?

2) Santa Claus has a vacation house that is positioned in such a way that all four sides face north. How is this possible?

3) Every Tuesday evening Hardy Pyle drives up to his cottage to visit his wife. On these weekly visits he drops off the clean clothes and picks up the dirty laundry. Since Mrs. Pyle changes her underwear each morning, what is the minimum number of underwear she can own?

Bonus question: When Clara Clatter was purchasing her new parrot, the salesman assured her that it would repeat any word it heard. About a week later, Clara returned the parrot complaining it hadn't uttered a single word. Given that the salesman had spoken the truth about the parrot's abilities, why wouldn't the bird talk?
So there you go, get to it, my little brainiacs.

I'll be around more this week, I won't be in the Sudan helping limbless orphans, I'll be right here in Mitchieville, working my little heart out to make the world a better place for all of us.

Good luck on these questions, if you're new to the game, just jump right in, full steam ahead. This game is so great that even Godless Commies enjoy it.
