Razorlight, a band with a spine
There is just so much wholesome goodness in this article that I don't even know where to start. However, upon reflection, I think I'll start at the beginning.
I like this next statement made by some yutz.
Rock on.
When they appeared at Live 8, they made an impassioned plea for the G8 leaders to 'fulfill their promises'.I can hear the masses hissing and booing. You know something though? They're right. They have done enough. Seriously, when the hell is enough, enough?
But last night, Razorlight declared they will not be donating any profits from increased album sales this week to Live8's charitable arm, despite a plea by David Gilmour of Pink Floyd.
They said they had already donated the proceeds of one song to charity, and felt they had done their bit for Live8.
"Live 8 was about awareness of the issues, not about giving money."Really? Then why did every single performer freak on the *rich nations* to give more money then?
Gilmour, who is worth £ 50million, appealed to his fellow musicians on Monday to give any proceeds from extra record sales to charity. He said: "This is money that should be used to save lives."50 million pounds is about $110 million Canadian. Does Gilmour really need all that $$$? Of course he doesn't. I suggest that he donates $100 million to Africa to get the ball rolling. He'll still have plenty of cash left for his drug habit(s) or whatever else he's into. Lead by example, mate.
I like this next statement made by some yutz.
"Malaria is the biggest killer of African children, and these deaths can be easily avoided. Imagine how many lives could be saved, given that the profits from just one album can pay for millions of mosquito nets."Mosquito nets? How about DDT? It's cheap, and it has proven to save millions of lives...oh that's right, somewhere along the line some Euro chump got the idea that DDT was bad, because it's a chemical, and that African deaths were a good idea...or something like that.
"The artists showed huge generosity and compassion in taking part this weekend. Now they should continue to show their goodwill by donating the profits that Live 8 helped create."I thought it wasn't about the money? Let Razorhead, or whoever the hell they are, keep the money. They are a small time band who probably aren't making shit to begin with. If you want to erase some local poverty, give it to the Razor guys, they deserve every cent they get.
Rock on.
