Why Karla is Good
Some people do not see the ongoing Karla Homolka situation as a positive thing. They are wrong. Here is why:
Karla shows us that Canada is a truly tolerant society. Only in Canada is a person whom the majority of citizens consider evil allowed to walk the streets. This is a welcome signal to the world. Our quality of immigrants will improve, because they know that Canada is a tolerant society.
Karla shows us that in Canada, a deal is a deal. Even after the damning videotapes were found, the all powerful Crown did not back out of its deal with Karla. Anyone, no matter how evil or sordid, can make a deal with the Canadian Justice system and know it will stand.
Karla is a victory for women’s rights. Oppressed women all over the planet can rejoice that oppression is a factor in sentencing. Most consider that Karla’s crimes are on par with Paul’s. It is only fair that her status as a member of an oppressed group earn her a lighter sentence for the same crimes as Paul. This is only fair. The silence of feminists denouncing Karla is consent for this viewpoint, the correct viewpoint.
Karla is a victory for freedom of the press. The press feeding frenzy over Karla is great for sales and advertising rates. This puts money into the main stream media and guarantees that they will continue their constitutional role of watchdog over our government, economy, and morals.
Karla shows we are better than the Americans. In that corrupt empire to the south, poor Karla would have been killed in prison. In Canada, she got a university degree! We can savor our own rich creamy goodness as opposed to the bran and prune muffin that is America.
