Debbie Lauder Has A Story--Ian Bailey Is Going To Tell It
As the tainted meat outbreak claims it's 15th victim in Canada, Ian Bailey of the Globe & Mail tries to put everyting into perspective for us with a riveting and vital news report. Here is a portion of what Ian wrote today:To Debby Lauder, it was a close call.Perogies? For shame, Maple Leaf foods, you have turned us all into Ukranians.
Mrs. Lauder bought two servings of Maple Leaf Ezee Sub meats from a Safeway in her neighbourhood on Sunday afternoon, vaguely aware of concerns about a listeriosis outbreak linked to Maple Leaf products that has become a major public-health concern.
"It was to be our dinner and for our son, who got home from work at 9 o'clock, so he could make himself big submarine sandwiches," she said yesterday.
Her husband, Bernie, was ready to make her 17-year-old son, Robert, a sandwich that afternoon, but the youth inexplicably turned it down.
For dinner that night, the family had perogies from the freezer.
Although nothing whatsoever happened to Debbie Lauder and her family, and even though this story of nothing is playing itself out in nearly every single home in Canada, it's still news. Debbie Lauder not dying is more important than the supposedly 15 that have died. Debbie had a close call, dontchaknow, the dead will still be dead tomorrow.
To all the Debbie Lauder's out there in Canada, to all those Debbie Lauder's that don't really have a story and nothing of importance happened to, we feel your pain. We know that kinda/maybe/possibly is some serious business.
Ian Bailey--A serious reporter
