Toronto vignette
Just last night, I came across this remarkable sight: There, in a fenced park not far from my home, in a fenced park that is for children only, was a man letting his dog crap in the park.
As I walked past the park, I counted a sign at each gate to the park: No Dogs. The park is filled with playground equipment: two slides, monkey bars, a wading pool, and trees and grass and flowers. Children play here during the day. And today, as you read this, children are playing in a park that has been blessed with dog turd, dog bowel fluids, and dog piss.
Not far from the childrens park is a park for dogs. A fifteen minuite walk - I timed it last night. It is a progressive Toronto park, where you may take your dog off the leash and let Rover run free. Of course, you have to scoop up dog turd. And, parents do not bring their children here to play on the grass. Dog turd, bowel fluids, and piss do carry disease. And right now, children, who live in my neighbourhood, are being exposed to sickness if they play in a childrens playground.
I always used to wonder why children get sick. And now I have part of the answer: people do not follow the rules; they do not honor the honor system. Sure, the last nights shit in the childrens playground might not infect little Jamie. And the bowel drippings from the night before, squirted over the lilac bush where little Cathy is playing, might not come in contact with her skin or mucous membranes. And the parasites in the urine from two nights ago probably won't end up transmitted to little Ben's eyes and liver. Maybe only one in a hundred thousand children will be made blind or dead from some stray dog shit in the childrens playground which is fenced and posted No Dogs.
Here is where I would normally launch into a comparison of Vimy-Ridge-Canadians and the new Half-Canadian culture. But I have learnt from experience that pointing out the differences between bad-old and good-new gets me in trouble. It is far worse a crime to comment on the failings of political correctness than the failings could ever be. So, I will leave speculation about what a Vimy-Ridge-Canadian would do when faced with a person exposing children to disease. We already know what Half-Canadians do. And if you mention this divergent perspective, you get called names. So, who cares?
My neighbourhood is located in the heart of socialist Toronto. There are only two houses that I have seen in fifteen years of walking around put up a blue Tory election signs. Otherwise, the signage is solid Liberal red, NDP orange, and Bolshevik yellow. So, it would be safe to say that both those exposed to death, and those exposing children to death, are a happy, self-contained and self-consistant socialist community. So if one comrade does not honor the honor system it is only another comrade who has to sit in emergency hoping that a doctor can see his kid before the dog stool bourne parasites hatch and spread. The blessings of political correctness are coming to those that have made it.
