Human Righting The Wrongs

Sharon Stone and a cadre of other Hollyweird celebrities are headed to Dubai to raise money for AIDS victims:

Stone and her amfAR allies have been cultivating a relationship with the super-rich nobles of the Persian Gulf's answer to Vegas. Last month, at a Cannes film fest party for the AIDS research group, Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn auctioned a "Dubai Fantasy Vacation" for $90,000. Stone is due to emcee another amfAR benefit at the Dubai International Film Festival in December.

That sounds positively swell, those Arabs must be a pretty good lot of people, maybe I had them pegged wrong:

The latest U.S. State Department report on human rights in the United Arab Emirates notes that civil and Islamic law "criminalize homosexual activity." Offenders are subject to arrest, imprisonment and deportation.

Well, at least prisoners suffering with AIDS in those countries are treated as well as the average Mohammad:

According to the report, "government officials discriminated against prisoners with HIV by not granting commuted sentences or parole that other prisoners with similar records had received."

On the other hand, women seem to be getting better treatment by the Arabs:

The report also cited "broad legal and societal discrimination against women. … Domestic abuse against women was a pervasive problem.

That's not important. What's important is that Hollyweird stars care. They love love and spread their love accordingly:

Stone's rep said the actress "certainly doesn't condone oppression of any kind.

And that's why Sharon Stone is going to Dubai, because she doesn't condone oppression of any kind.

If Sharon Stone's rep was smart, he would use that old line about the only way to change things is through education, that always dupes stupid people:

Change can only come about when people can be educated.

Perfect. Now give them the old, "It's a global problem", line:

This is a global problem.

Wonderful, you're nearly there. Now finish it all off with that whole joke about how AIDS has no political boundaries (and try not to smirk when you say it)

That's pretty convincing, good job. Now no one can accuse you of bringing in a barrel full of blood money from torturers, haters and abusers, for you are altruistic.
