**Update: Initial news was incorrected, the victims were from Michigan, not Canada**
At least 21 Canadian seniors are believed to be dead following a tour boat accident on a lake in upstate New York.Article here.
The boat was carrying a tour group from Canada, said Warren County Sheriff Larry Cleveland in a press conference.
The 40-foot, glass-enclosed "Ethan Allen" was carrying 49 passengers when it flipped over on Lake George, shortly before 3 p.m. EDT.
Cleveland said the vessel capsized when another tour boat passed near it and swamped it. The boat sank.
Cleveland said that by 5 p.m. EDT, all passengers had been accounted for.
The Glens Falls Post Star quoted Cleveland as saying the wake from the Mohican, a boat owned by Lake George Steamboat Co., swamped and flipped the Ethan Allen.
It's not clear where in Canada the tour group is from, but the area is popular with tourists from Quebec and eastern Ontario.
Cleveland mentioned during a press conference that there was a "language barrier" when communicating with some of the victims' relatives.
The 21 bodies were laid out along the shore, and the scene was blocked off by police with tarps.
The captain of the "Ethan Allen" survived the accident and is cooperating with police, said Cleveland.
Lake George is about 80 kilometres north of Albany in the Adirondack Mountains.
The weather at the time of the accident was clear and calm.
