Black Watermelon Seeds Are Racist

Asked to create a display to celebrate the strengths of Colusa County's agriculture industry while paying homage to the State Fair's theme, 'The State Fair Goes Hollywood,' wards at Fout Springs Boys Correctional Facility came up with "Waldo Watermelon Seed" (the black seed in the picture). I'm sure you can guess what happened next:
Veronica Hannon Thrasher, who objected to the caricature along with her husband, said, "I applaud these students' efforts. But they probably never had the benefit of a black history class" that showed images depicting African Americans "as a happy black slave eating watermelon. If the students were presented with that history, they might have drawn 'Waldo Watermelon Seed' a little differently."There are many heroes in this story, and I would like to thank a few of them: First of all, many thanks goes to the Sacramento Bee newspaper who brought this to the public's attention not once, not twice, but ran with this very important story three times. I'm surprised CNN and the rest of the msm haven't chimed in on this yet--mind you, the story is only a week old, so it still has some play left.
Next in line for congratulations are the fine folks at Colusa County who decided to take down this terribly racist display and cave in to political correctness. To take a stand and say that no, this display is not racist, could lead to confrontation, and whitey is too busy being scared of their own shadows than to state the obvious, that anyone who finds a black watermelon seed (the actual colour of watermelon seeds, none-the-less) racist has to be the biggest ignorant asshole the world has ever seen.
Mr and Mrs Thrasher deserve a big thank you for bringing this sorry episode to the attention of the universe. I would like to thank Mr and Mrs Thrasher for looking under every rock and behind every nook and cranny, and to be able to spot a racist watermelon seed. Most people who spot a watermelon seed just see a watermelon seed, but lucky we have you. I know that you folks haven't filed a lawsuit against the county yet for your pain and suffering, but when you inevitably do, here's the first thing you tell the press: "It's not about the money...".
Finally, I would like to thank the "roughly 40 percent Latino and 40 percent African American" boys at the correctional facility. Without your non-racist racism, none of this would have been possible.
In order to heal the old wounds of racism, we must first scratch the scab off the wound over and over and over and over and over and over and over again.
Seeds of destruction
