Robert Smith Sentenced To 20 Months

Robert Smith, former Keith's Ale spokesman, was sentenced today to 20 months on child porn charges:

Crown prosecutor Allison Dellandrea said the sentence will help dispel the myth "that those who possess child pornography and child abuse images are somehow not responsible for the abuse committed against children in those exploitative images."

The sentence demonstrates that people in possession of child porn are directly responsible for the abuse, she added.

The judge in the case said the 43-year-old Smith had a "profound and abiding obsession with child pornography."

Toronto police first observed him downloading images and videos of children being sexually exploited from a file-sharing website.

Police raided Smith's home in 2006 and found more than 1,100 child porn files on two computers, along with 14 CDs.

The married father of two pleaded guilty to three child porn charges in May.

The fact Smith has two boys, aged four and seven, influenced the length of the sentence, said lead investigator Det.-Const. Nicki Laxamana.

I first brought this case to Mitchieville's attention about 2 1/2 years ago. I was told by one of the commenter's at the time, a friend of Robert's, that I was too quick to judge him, and that a true pedophile was someone who had sex with children, not just possessing child porn pictures. Well Kate, the judge seems to agree with me, Robert is a pedophile and it's time you get that through your head.

Look again at what Crown prosecutor Allison Dellandrea had to say-"The sentence demonstrates that people in possession of child porn are directly responsible for the abuse".
