The Society of Secret Societies
Like most activists, I feel the need to explore and to share observations with like minded people. And I am thankful that I live in a society that embraces diversity and celebrates all voices. I can say anything I want, as long as nobody is offended. So I know that most forms of speech are offensive to somebody, so that my speech, my public self had better be restricted to quotations from political literature. But for me to explore, I need the company of a like minded people, and that means finding a secret society.
Within the embrace of a secret society, I can express my hopes and fears, and listen to those of others, knowing that any gaffes I make will be just that, not grounds for litigation, loss of employment, or physical attack. While political correctness demands that I nod my head and agree that all men are rapists, all whites are racists, and that all cultures are of equal value, I need a place where I can talk about sex with the girlfriend, where I can say that Thomas Paine is not a racist, and where I can chat about my distaste for the cannibalism of cannibal cultures. In the warm sanctity of my lodge, I have the freedom of expression that was the birthright of Vimy-Ridge-Canadians.
So, what should you look for in a secret society? A good question.
Secret societies are based upon shared experiences, usually some sort of ritual that is known only to members. Based upon common memories of this ritual, various moral lessons are expounded, and the identity of other members can be challenged.
Rituals are usually some sort of roleplay that is a metaphor for a world view. Members of the secret society assume roles and take pride in quality delivery of lines, wielding of props, and attention to detail.
Secret societies are hard to infiltrate. Generally, the forces of political correctness are unaware of their existence, being more enamoured of centuries old stereotypes. Tyrants and aristocrats may scowl about the art work they see in the mens room, but they never get into the lodge. Humans always tend to be a step or two ahead of their primate oppressors.
Secret societies usually use a private language. Much as how ‘Canadian’ has come to mean the N-word, or ‘employment equity’ has come to mean ‘incompetent’. The secret dictionary that secret societies use as a means to allow them to communicate freely in a politically correct society that only allows speech to flow freely in prescribed directions, like a toilet only allows shit to flow one way, in a certain way.
You can make up your rituals, your language, and craft your world view into your rituals and language. S.L. MacGregor Mathers did as much when he created the Golden Dawn. Being intelligent helps, along with a strong grasp of history, English, and political thought. Alternatively, you can join several of the many secret societies that already exist in your community.
In times of crisis, when tyrants wax mighty and aristocrats strut with perfumed arrogance, there is the cast down public face of the free man, and then there is the private face, where he joins with his fellow free men in free debate, plotting for a return to the freedom. Secret societies are a part of our culture. Embrace diversity and explore the many secrets of the secret societies near you.
Enough of this for now. Meet you on the square.
