Obama's Pastor And His Retirement Home
Life in America has been so very hard on poor ole Rev. Jeremiah Wright, but it looks like his final years are looking up:Wright is about to move to a 10,340-square-foot, four-bedroom home in suburban Chicago, currently under construction in a gated community.God damn America isn't so bad after all. Hopefully this...wait for it....wait for it....$1.6 million dollar house will ease some of the pain he had to endure while living in the racist shithole that is the US of A.
On the accounting side, it looks as though the transaction for the home is about as upfront and transparent as most Chicago-style purchases:
The sale price for the land was just under $308,000, about $40,000 less than Wright’s original purchase two years earlier.According to tax expert Jack Siegel of Charity Governance Consulting, this is par for the course...nothing to see here. Besides, churches are classified as private businesses, so Jeremiah isn’t required to reveal the intended use for the line of credit. Or for that matter, because his church is *non-profit*, he doesn't have to reveal to the IRS where the line of credit is going or what it is being used for (wink wink, nudge nudge).
Public records of the sale show Trinity initially obtained a $10 million bank loan to purchase the property and build a new house on the land.
But further investigation with tax and real estate attorneys showed that the church had actually secured a $1.6 million mortgage for the home purchase, and attached a $10 million line of credit, for reasons unspecified in the paperwork.
The 8000 congregants of Reverend Wright's church have been taught well. From the sounds of it, the good Reverend has been preaching Acts 2:44-45---"All the believers joined together and shared everything in common; they sold their possessions and goods and divided the proceeds among the fellowship according to individual need."
Except in this case, the fellowship only consisted of Reverend Wright.
Can I get a hallelujah?
