Testing Canada's Hate Speech Laws
A speech by Black Panther leader, Malik Zulu Shabazz, at Queens Park and later at Ryerson University in Toronto, is being condemned by Jewish groups who claim that Shabazz is a hatemonger:"We hope [the speech] doesn't take place," B'nai Brith vice-president Frank Dimant said. "We trust that sanity will prevail and hate mongering will not be allowed in Canada."How bad can this guy really be? He can't be that bad, because if he was, the group that sponsored him, Black Youth Coalition Against Violence, would never have asked him to speak in the first place, right? Buehler? Buehler?
Mr. Shabazz is set to speak at a rally organized in part by the Black Youth Coalition Against Violence.
Thanks to Darcey from the Broom, here are a few pearls that Shabazz has uttered in his few years on the earth:
"death to Israel," "the white man is the devil," and "Jihad." Shabazz also said, "Kill every goddamn Zionist in Israel! Goddamn little babies, goddamn old ladies! Blow up Zionist supermarkets!"Seems like a pleasant, peace-loving fellow. Welcome to Canada.
Are you going to deny that the Jewish people have been substantially and significantly involved in the African holocaust? They have and you can't deny that
It would seem odd if Canadian authorities allowed this upstanding gentleman to grace our shores, considering that we deported Ernst Zundel for saying basically the same thing, and with a hell of a lot less followers.
Canadian authorities wouldn't let Fred Phelps into our country because of his outspoken anti-homosexual views.
You see, Canada has hate speech laws on the books, you just can't go around saying anything in Canada. In the U.S. you can say pretty much anything you like and they won't lock you up, but here in Canada we are restricted in what we say.
This is why the topic of whether to bring this fellow into Canada is an interesting one. Personally, I have no trouble letting him in, as long as Phelps and Zundel and all the other dregs are allowed to come in and speak wherever they want to whomever they want. But that will never happen because of our hate speech laws.
So, that's the reason this guy shouldn't be let in. It has to be one law for everyone. If he preaches hate, he can't come in and stir the pot. As of this minute though, he's still allowed to come in, let's wait and see if our government steps up to the plate on this one. That's a 50/50 shot.
The people we should be upset about though, is the Black Youth Coalition Against Violence. This group was started to address the violent gun deaths Toronto had a few years ago. For them to invite Shabadabado to speak to their group astounds me. They know what this character is like, they are suppose to be a group that's bringing people together, not ripping them apart. I guess the old adage is right: You are known by the company you keep.
Hating the hate
