Cheating at Chess

Among the masters of deception, cheating at chess is considered the creme de la creme. Telemarketers take note! The Hungry Sales Wolf must be alert for such creatures in the forest of opportunity. The prospect may look like a cute bunny rabbit, but these chess players are really tough meat, full of sinews and not much fat.

It is always a good practice to ask yourself what can I do better when you hang up the phone. Generally the answer is product knowledge, after that, a well stocked arsenal of useless trivia such as sports tid bits, market gossip, and vacation anecdotes. These all fail in the face of those martial artists of the mind who are the masters of deception, who lead you on, who do not buy. Instead of dealing with the traditional obstacle handling, product knowledge or buying signal recognition that is the furry coat, bushy tail, and sharp fangs of the Hungry Sales Wolf, I instead direct you to the game of chess. As a telemarketer, if you can spot and overcome these brain bandits, you have earned that third degree of master in the sublime craft of making yourself rich.

The best way is to study the methods of these unscrupulous swine. This is an analogy of the Hungry Sales Bear principle of out-nazi the boss. However, in this case, we are applying it to customers. It takes a thief to catch a thief. So start with the classic entry level book on the subject: Underhanded Chess by Jerry Sohl (*). After you have done that, get back to me. We will talk.
