Computer Games Corner - August 1, 2005

Fenris and I always get together when we can to have some wholesome computer games fun! This week, we played a role playing game called Norman War Lord Deluxe

I got stuck with playing the younger son of the Norman War Lord Ulf of Bayeux. I was given the younger sons inheritance of a single manor. Fenris was the eldest surviving son, so he got a six knights fee estate in Normandy, and a three knights fee manor in Wiltshire. My estate was outside of York

Baron of Beaumont My peasants hate me. They tried to kill me within days of my arrival. Two peasants snared me with a hook and rope and tried to drag me into a hedge, where the blacksmith had his hammer and a stake. I fought them off, though. Fenris said I should burn the village, but, I only have one village. I do not want to destroy my own tax base.

A rich marriage Fenris arranged a very rich marriage for himself. I got married off to the younger sister, but still, it brought me three more knights and increased my revenue by three hundred percent. Unfortunately, the new wife had a higher warlike rating than my character, and promptly burned my revenue producing village when the peasants did not celebrate her birthday with sufficient enthusiasm. Her name was Maude.

The Scottish War There was a new Scottish king: William the Lion. He replaced his brother, Angus the Red, when Angus was defeated and executed by the Bishop of Edinburgh, Ulfgrim. William promptly invaded the North of England and I was called up (with my three knights) to fight them off. Well, the Warden of the Northern Marches did not show up at the rallying point and I got swarmed by the heathen Scots and died a Hero's death. Nice Graphics for that. My widow got married off by Fenris to his eldest son. Oh well.
