Lawmakers Consider Fast Food Tax
Lawmakers in New Jersey are considering a *sin tax* on fast foods, with Governor Jon S. Corzine calling the idea a "constructive suggestion." Although the idea is in its infancy, seeing as how the government coffers are running thin, one could easily see this motion passing.I have to admit, I really like this idea. We have to start facing facts: without more taxes being drawn out of taxpayers, it is going to be impossible to run programs that are vital to communities--Like midnight basketball and safe injection sites. Or distributing free drug kits for drug addicts, and grants to theatres and alternative art exhibits. Do you want to live in a world where illegal aliens are denied access to health care, education and welfare? I sure as hell don't.
Taxing fast foods will not affect the average Joe, it will only affect the most marginalized in society. And truth be told, if the marginalized are marginalized just a tiny bit more, I think we can all live with that.
This is a tax on fast foods, not a tax on sushi and granola. The government knows what's right, just sit back, spread 'em, and close your eyes.
Hold the pickles...
