Onslaught--Here It Comes
I actually had five people send me this today....the newest Dove commercial(?)that the Dove marketing people say, "Will take your breath away". Well, I'm still breathing, but the commercial/informercial is pretty well thought out. I'll give them that. However, one of the people that sent me this also had this to say regarding my comments regarding overweight people:
...the best commercials I have seen in years....because comments like the ones you make on your blog, insulting anyone who doesn't look like a skinny starlet, are exactly the type of comments that damage women's self esteem. I know you think it's funny; it's not, it's real, it's painful, and it affects millions of women. Maybe you should think about how you'd feel if it were your daughter who was bombarded with the types of messages in this video, or saw the insulting comments on your blog.It always comes down to, "What about the children?", doesn't it?
It's hard not to agree with most of what my fellow Mitchievillian said. Guilty as charged. However, kids shouldn't be reading Mitchieville to begin with (too many big words) and any adult that doesn't dig what I have to say can always feel free to, well, go elsewhere.
My humour is what it is: Bizarre. I'm an insulter, a satirist. I do get my kicks out of taking the piss out of people, hell knows I've taken my fair share in my lifetime, too. Fat people, skinny people, bald guys, all fair targets as far as I'm concerned. Do I have a line that I refuse to cross? Yup, sure do, but fat jokes isn't it.
I honestly don't ever think about how children feel when I write jokes about fat people because I simply don't care what children feel like when I write jokes about fat people. Does that make me callous? An asshole? Sure it does, it even says I'm an asshole on my resume.
Do I have fat friends? Do I even love some fat people? I sure as hell do (they're always so happy, just like the characterization says). I hear that jokes about fat people hurt women's self-esteem, but they need to get over it. Simple as that. I hear bald jokes all the time, for years I've been hearing them. Does it hurt my self-esteem? Shit no, I don't give a rats ass...I'm fair game.
As for Dove putting out this *revolutionary* video that is suppose to change the world through the message that we are all created equal and that too much attention is paid to skinny people? I'll believe Dove's message when they stop selling Slim-fast. Fucking hypocrites. Trust me, this campaign is to flog Unilever/Dove product, they don't give a fuck about people.
When Dove changes its corporate culture and stops selling it's liquid dope, then I'll buy into the notion that they love all the little children: Red and yellow, black and white, they are precious in Dove's sight.
As for that email I got...we can still be friends, I'll just be the guy you introduce as the asshole.
