11 Year Old Thrown in Jail Over Homemade Slingshot
An 11 year old boy has been released after spending 72 in jail for committing the crime of bringing a makeshift slingshot to school and shooting another boy in the chest:'I wasn't trying to hit him. It was an accident to shoot him,' he said soon after he was released from the Marion Regional Juvenile Detention Center Tuesday night. 'I just want to say I'm sorry.'The victim received a welt from the plastic pellet and is fine.
The sixth-grader at Tavares Middle was arrested Friday when he was accused of using a toy balloon slingshot to hit another student in the chest. He faces second-degree felony charges of shooting or throwing a deadly missile
The convicts parents are are upset at their child, but also upset at the punishment given, which they declare is too harsh. School administrators, however, don't see it that way and are ramping up their punishment:
School administrators have started the 'expulsion process.' But he wouldn't comment on the disciplinary action they'll take. Lake schools have a zero-tolerance policy for weapons, Herring said. Many of you might think that sending an 11 year old to jail over a homemade slingshot, then expelling him from school is far too harsh a punishment. You, my friends, are completely wrong.
Kevin should not only have the book thrown at him, he should be beaten with the same book. The dreaded circle of violence must be stopped once and for all, and if that means that 11 year old kids must spend hard time in jail to stop the spread of violence, then so be it.
Put it this way: Kevin brings a balloon slingshot to class, the next day little Timmy fights back and brings a bottle rocket to class. The following day, fearing for her life, Loquesha brings a Nerf gun to school. By the end of the week, the Mott's applesauce that was once in the children's lunches have been replaced by RPG's and automatic weapons. And why? Because society didn't protect us from the evil Kevin's of this world.
Boo Kevin, Yeah school administrators.
