Water-Natures Death Juice

We are constantly told by all sorts of *Experts* that we should be drinking 4 litres of water a day. Water is good for the skin, it helps with concentration, it's the miracle juice from the God's. But is it really?

What happens when you drink too much water?
Water enters the body when we drink and is removed primarily in the urine and sweat. The amount of water in the body is regulated to control the levels of certain compounds, such as salt, in the blood.

If you drink too much water, eventually the kidneys will not be able to work fast enough to remove sufficient amounts from the body, so the blood becomes more dilute with low salt concentrations.

"If you drink too much water it lowers the concentration of salt in your blood so that it is lower than the concentration of salt in cells," says Professor Robert Forrest, a consultant in clinical chemistry and forensic toxicology at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital in Sheffield.
Show of hands: How many of you have heard the old mantra, *8 cups of water a day*? Okay, it looks like everyone has heard that. Now, how many of you believe that you should drink 8 cups of water on top of the water you intake naturally through the foods you eat every day? That's what I thought, only River Rat and TH-III kare clued in about that.

If someone tells you that you need 8 cups of water a day, rest assured that person watches too much daytime TV. 8 cups a day is nonsense, there are too many factors involved to make a blanket statement like that. I might possibly believe that someone from a warmer climate might need 8 cups of water a day, but someone from Toronto certainly doesn't, we need significantly less water. Your body tells you how much water you need, just have some common sense and read the signs.

And one more thing, drinking bottled water is no better for you than water from the tap. Sure, you'll look like a fashion hobo drinking tap water, but show me one study that says Evian is better for you than tap and I'll buy you a sports car. BTW, re-arrange the letters in Evian, and what does it spell. That's right, it spells naive. Are you freaked out, or what?

How refreshing was that post?
