Sacrifice for Africa
Fenris and I always get together when we can to have some wholesome computer games fun! He was waiting for a phone call, and he said that he was writing the billable hours off as a charity donation. This week, we played a ‘design your own’ scenario from the game Total War - Twentieth Century.
What great graphics! We decided to let the Hitler Nazi’s invade England in 1944. How did this come about, you ask? Well, in the game you can toggle on and off various technologies and historical events. We vetoed the planned German invasion of Russia in 1941, so, instead Stalin attacks Hitler in 1942. We had Hitler crush the Russians, and he had to spend 1943 digesting the Russian war economy as well as side excursions to the Suez canal and Morocco. Of course, by 1944 the Warmachine needs something to do, so we invaded England, landing in Kent.
First Wave The Germans hit the beach with ten infantry divisions and four parachute divisions. It was a lot of fun watching the kamphgruppe form up and struggle towards objectives. The rules for railway artillery are top notch. The British port garrisons did sterling work stalling the stormtroopers
Second Wave Panzertruppen begin to show up on the fluid front. Since most of the shipping is going to end up on the bottom of the channel anyway, the wise German commander Fenris sends over his inventory of obsolete and unreliable equipment. The Allied player, Sargon, was unable to bring forward heavy equipment because of all those Sturmoviks now in the German arsenal
Third Wave On the third day, the American Imperialists finally release their divisions to the front. Fenris then attacked them with nerve gas, for which the 1944 vintage Yanks were not prepared. The British government fell with the first whiff of Tabun, choosing appeasement over fighting house to house on their own territory. This was fun. The British units began to reclassify themselves as neutral, pro-Churchill, or pro-Mosley. A Mosley unit overran one of the American corps headquarters.
That is as far as we got.
