Smart Women Marry
In what has been called a "dramatic reversal of an established pattern", a new analysis says that women with degrees are more likely to marry than their less educated sisters:In 1996 women without university degrees had higher marriage rates. But within a decade it was no longer the case. By 2006 61 per cent of women aged 30 to 34 who had degrees were married, compared with 53 per cent of those without post-school qualifications. How is it possible that smart women and stupid guys marry? I keed, I keed.
University-educated women older than 34 were also more likely to be married. Even among women in their 20s, the marriage gap between those with and without degrees had closed.
The rest of the article isn't worth reading, it spouts a bunch on nonsense statistics and crappy war stories about Julie the spinster and the rest of her merry band of marriage-less cronies.
The reason why educated women are getting married more than their non-educated sisters is simple: For years, men would fall in love with the person, not the bank account or the house and fancy car. Over the years, divorces have skyrocketed and marriage is now serious business.
So, 25 years ago, Timmy the Stock broker who was raking in $60k a year would happily marry Judy the waitress who made an impressive $8500. A few years after the marriage hit the rocks, Judy the waitress would be entitled to half of everything Timmy possessed. Sucks for Timmy, but there is no accounting for bad taste.
Multiply this by about a billion couples, and this is what the latest generation of men have to contend with, and this is what they have seen and heard. Trust me, every young man that is about to be married has heard over and over again how sorry they are going to be. This has an affect on a man's psyche.
Now, instead of marrying Judy the waitress, men are thinking twice and hedging their bets. Why take a chance on a borderline welfare case when I can marry Brenda the surgeon who makes an impressive $150k a year, Timmy thinks?
Exactly.
The Timmy's of the world have caught on, no more falling into the financial ditch by marrying under yourself. Good for you Timmy, good for you.
