Fear and Loathing in Ontario

Nothing like a little Activist versus Activist action to liven up the long hours and lessen the crossword fatigue in the lunchroom.

Two things upset the normally sleepy and peaceful environment in todays taxspender lounge.

1) Someone said that the Toronto Star printed a story about the civil liberties association calling for the defunding of the Catholic School Board. This upset most everybody, but for different reasons:

1a) Those Toronto School Board employees with children in the Catholic School system were not happy. They have their kids there to keep them away from the gangs. Those Catholic schools have a reputation of being safer, although if pressed, both the Shop Steward and the Lunchroom Commissar will claim they are sending their kid to a Catholic school that has 'their program'. (The deputy shop steward has an opinion about N-people that a klansman would consider harsh and unfeeling. Nobody disagreed with him: because he was the deputy steward? or because they agree with him? or because they are doing the crossword?)

1b) Voters who have loved ones in the Catholic Schools realize that if they do not vote for Tory, then the Libs/NDP will chop the funding for the Catholics. Even the most sour socialist in the lunchroom saw that, and I saw that in their Lenin green eyes. While alot of people do not give a fig about the seperate schools, they do care about the Catholic schools.

Moral of the story: Socialists should shut up about defunding the Catholics until after the election. The leftist dominated minority government could easily push this through, but they should not talk about it. It is costing votes!

2) Iran is a queer-free zone. Someone said that they heard on the radio (or was it in the paper?) that the dreamy activist leader of Iran muttered something about there being no queers in Iran. This upset a few people.

2a) Iran is one of the vanguard nations in the great fight against the pure evil of George Bush. Opposing evil, they must be good, so being queer-free is not part of the acceptable message. So, the media must be reporting this wrong, and the wrong is in the fact of reporting, not in the facts.

2b) These sort of wild, inflamatory comments make the warnings of the right wing wackos appear to be correct. This makes the left look bad for being wrong. So, it would be better to not hear these things. The Main Stream Media is falling down on the job.

Moral of the Story: The Main Stream Media should not report facts that make the left look bad. There is only one homophobe, and that is George Bush, the Republicans, Christians (except the United Church, but they arent really Christians, are they), and anyone who disagrees with political correctness.

Of course, the underlying fear is that the Main Stream Media is selling out to the right wing fanatics. Just because their newspapers are going out of business is no reason to sell out The Bolshevik Alliance. How can We Keep Our Jobs if the Media reports facts? If those private schools get funded there will be a stampede of students out of the Public School Boards, taking with them teaching jobs, maintenance jobs, hall way monitor jobs, gang youth worker jobs (well, maybe not, as the gangbangers are not going to go, now are they), and so on.

And, of course, the survivors of the purges would be working in a dense, high gangbanger school. These are places where your car gets broken into, your tools stolen, and teachers get beat up. But, you would be very high up on the seniority list, as those lower down would be the ones laid off. And, if you are that high up on the list, you are pretty close to retirement. Then again, with all that pension coming to you, you cannot really quit, now can you? Oh well. Bolshevik life sucks.
